Certified Hypertension Clinician (CHC)

The Certified Hypertension Clinician (CHC) identifies Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists, and Primary Care physicians with expert skills and knowledge in the management of clinical hypertension. Through showing mastery of a defined body of knowledge in clinical hypertension, this certification provides recognition of the expertise of these healthcare clinicians and demonstrates their commitment to the highest standards of hypertension patient care.

This nationally-recognized certification offers clinicians at the front-lines of diagnosing and treating hypertension an independent validation of their skills and expertise.

CERTIFICATION ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

By the application deadline, candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Two years of direct patient care experience in hypertension is recommended
  • Candidates must meet the appropriate eligibility requirement:

NURSE PRACTITIONERS:

  • Currently is licensed or certified as a nurse practitioner in the United States;

CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALISTS:

  • Currently is licensed or certified as a clinical nurse specialist in the United States;

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS:

  • Currently is licensed or certified as a physician assistant in the United States;

PHARMACISTS:

  • Currently is licensed as a pharmacist in the United States and has completed at least one year of residency (PGY-1) or equivalent patient care training, or three years of direct patient care practice experience (requires a signed attestation from current supervisor;)

PHYSICIANS:

  • Currently is licensed as a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) in the United States and has completed a residency in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics or Gynecology;

 

  • Complete and file the Application
  • Pay the required fee

REDESIGNATION PROTOCOL

Certified Hypertension Clinicians who were designated on the basis of passing the AHSCP CHC examination will need to redesignate after the ten (10) year designation period expires by re-applying for and passing the CHC examination.
